Dental Implants Q & A

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are titanium posts that provide a base for oral restorations like implant-supported dentures, overdentures, bridges, and crowns. Q Smiles Dental places the implants into your jaw during an outpatient procedure. Following treatment, your jawbone extends around each post, fusing them in place.

Dental implants are tough and long-lasting. By practicing good oral hygiene and attending regular checkups, they can last for the rest of your life.

What are All-on-4 implants?

All-on-4 implants are a revolutionary dental technology that gives patients the ability to secure an entire arch of dentures in their mouth with only four dental implants.

All-on-4 implants enhance the comfort of your denture experience and provide a wide range of benefits for your overall oral health.

What are the advantages of dental implants?

Dental implants provide many advantages compared to traditional dental restorations, including:

  • Convenience
  • Durability
  • Improved speech
  • Easier eating
  • Comfort

Dental implants also improve your oral health. They’re easy to clean and significantly lower your risk of gum disease and bone loss.

Who is a good candidate for dental implants?

Anyone missing one, some, or all of their permanent teeth is a good candidate for dental implants. If you have gum disease or low bone volume, your provider might recommend scaling and root planing or a bone graft first. After, you can receive implants.

During your initial consultation, let your provider know if you’re living with a chronic medical condition like diabetes, high blood pressure, or kidney disease. These ailments won’t prevent you from getting implants, but they may increase the risk of complications.

What does getting dental implants involve?

Q Smiles Dental takes an individualized, conservative approach to dental implant placement. The process typically requires at least three appointments, spread out over several months.

After developing a custom care plan, your provider administers a local anesthetic and places a single implant or several implants into your jaw. The number of implants you receive depends on how many teeth are missing and the type of restoration you want. Following implant placement, you recover for several months.

Once the implants fuse to your jaw, you return to Q Smiles Dental. Your provider takes impressions of your mouth and sends them to a dental laboratory that manufactures your bridge, crowns, implant-supported dentures, or overdentures. If you only have one implant, your provider crafts your crown on-site using the CEREC milling machine.

A few weeks later, you visit Q Smiles Dental for your final appointment. Your provider attaches your crown, bridge, overdentures, or implant-supported dentures to your implants, restoring your smile and chewing abilities.
